Milan’s Covered Municipal Markets, founded in the 1950s across the city’s neighborhoods, have long served as key commercial and social hubs. In recent decades, however, these markets (MCMMs) have declined due to evolving food and shopping habits, urban expansion, and municipal neglect, leading to abandonment and closures. My thesis proposes a systemic strategy to reactivate and revitalize MCMMs through new management models and visions. The idea is to design a “menu” of adaptable services tailored to the distinct needs of each of Milan’s 23 markets, fostering regeneration while maintaining a shared, citywide purpose.
