Service Design & Data Engineering: an alliance towards impacts

March 12, 2026

Expert Design Talks: Davide Posillipo

The extensive use of data for service design is a valuable approach that has been widely discussed in recent years. Despite its strengths, this type of approach is potentially limited by an “ex post” view of available data, or by the definition of data structures and flows that are functional only for the specific service being designed. In this lecture, I propose a more holistic approach, also through the mention of real-world application cases, where interaction with data takes place during its generation and management and across the services that will be affected by it, thanks to collaboration and dialogue with the world of Data Engineering. Developing shared tools, workflows, and languages can help revitalize organizations' information assets, increase the impact of both disciplines, and contribute to the creation of the Post-Technical Data Practitioner, a professional capable of building and evolving this hybridization.
