Daniela Sangiorgi
Associate Professor - Head of the PSSD
PhD in Design, Daniela is Associate Professor at the Design Department of Politecnico di Milano. She has been one of the first researchers investigating the area of Service Design. She worked for eight years at the research group Imagination at Lancaster University till August 2015. Her research theme is the role of design in the development of services, with a particular focus on public sector innovation. Recently she has been investigating the role of service design for mental healthcare transformation. She is a member of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP), and a committee member of the international Service Design and Innovation conference (ServDes). Her research has been published in journals such as Design Studies, The Design Journal, International Journal of Design, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Service Management, Service Science.
Beatrice Villari
Associate Professor - Secretary of the PSSD
Beatrice Villari, PhD in Design, is Associate Professor of Design at the Politecnico di Milano - Department of Design. Her main research interests are on service innovation, service design, design for social innovation, design for communities, and territorial development, and design for policy. She is a member of the Faculty of Design School of Politecnico di Milano teaching Service Design and Design methods. Beatrice is also the Co-director of the Specializing Master in Service Design. She is co-founder of the Service Innovation Academy and co-founder and curator of RETHINK! Service Design Stories, the first Italian Service Design Festival. She participates in national and international research projects concerning Service Innovation, Social Innovation, and Design Policies, collaborating with universities, public bodies, and businesses.
Valentina Auricchio
Assistant Professor - Support to PSSD Coordination
Valentina is specialized in managing strategic design projects and in particular international projects for small and medium industries and Design Thinking processes. After her PhD she has worked as project manager for Poli.Design dealing both with institutions and companies. From 2009 to 2011 she has been director of IED Research Centre managing strategic projects with several companies. From 2012 to 2014 she has been Co-editor of the magazine Ottagono. In 2016 she founded the consulting firm 6ZERO5. She has participated in conferences and seminars nationally and internationally. She teaches in Politecnico di Milano in the Master Course in PSSD and in the Master Course in Integrated Product Design and she has been a visiting professor in other institutions in the field of strategic design and design methods (IED, Marangoni, Srishti School, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore).
Camilla Barone
Adjunct Professor
Semiologist specialized in qualitative methodologies for the integration of analytical and creative research for innovation, design and brand development. Phd in semiotics, at Politecnico di Milano she currently is Adjunct Professor at MIP, the Graduate School of Business, and Researcher at Leadin’Lab, the Laboratory for LEAdeship Design and Innovation. She teaches Business Innovation at the Politecnico di Milano School of Design and Semiotics at IULM University of Milan. She has been in charge of socio semiotics methodologies for several market research and design studios, consulting Added Value (Italy, U.K.), Kantar, Doing, VRD Research. She has a five-year experience as Strategic Planner in Armando Testa Group.
Emilio Bellini

Emilio Bellini is Assistant Professor of Leadership & Innovation at the School of Management, Politecnico di Milano, Italy where he serves also as Co-Founder of LEADIN'Lab, the laboratory for LEADership, Design and Innovation and Chief Scientific Officer of the Observatory Digital Innovation in Retail. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Engineering from Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Italy. His current main research streams are Innovation Management and Retail Service Innovation. He has published more than 20 papers in international journals, such as International Journal of Innovation Management, European Journal of Innovation Management, Creativity and Innovation Management, Journal of Technology Transfer, International Journal of Project Management.
Sabrina Bresciani

Sabrina is a senior assistant professor at the Design department of the Politecnico di Milano. She’s been a visiting research fellow at the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, and the National University of Singapore. She obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Switzerland, and worked for ten years at the School of Management of the University of St. Gallen. She has lectured in China, Peru, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and India. Her research interests focus on design for inclusivity -in particular on intercultural communication and sensory processing sensitivity- social innovation, experimental methods and assessment.
Paola Bertola

Paola Bertola holds a PhD in Industrial Design and Multimedia Communication at Politecnico di Milano, Scholar Researcher at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago (IIT). She’s currently a professor of Design at Politecnico di Milano, where she teaches in the Bachelor Program in Fashion Design, in the International Master of Luxury Management and in the Executive MBA and in the Master Program in Fashion Direction - Brand & Product Management at Milano Fashion Institute (A multidisciplinary consortium owned by Politecnico, Università Bocconi and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore). She’s also a professor at SDA Bocconi School of Management.
Raffaele Boiano

Raffaele Boiano explores the busy intersection of cultural anthropology, experience design and pair coding. He has 19+ years experience shaping usable and delightful product/services experiences. His strong skill sets include user research, information architecture, user interface design, usability testing and front-end coding. Co-founder of Fifth Beat, a design innovation studio, he is now committed to make the world a better place. Raffaele also is former VP of the Italian Information Architecture Society and co-founder of Roma’s UX book club. He is faculty member in Polimi (adjunct professor at Politecnico di Milano - School of Design where he teaches User Experience Design), IULM, Luiss Guido Carli, Scuola Holden and Talent Garden.
Stefana Broadbent

Stefana Broadbent is an Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano in the Department of Design. Between 2014 and 2016 she was Head of Collective Intelligence at Nesta, UK’s innovation agency. Previously Stefana was a Lecturer in Digital Anthropology at University College London. She was in the strategy board of Swisscom where she led the Observatory of Digital Life until 2008. Stefana holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive science from the University of Edinburgh, and a degree in Psychology from the Université de Genève. She is the cofounder of Cleanweb which operates IYWTO an organisation which uses the web to simplify the transition to sustainable ways of living. Her recent publications include chapters in the The Onlife Manifesto (2015) and Digital Anthropology (2012) and her book Intimacy at Work (Routledge 2016).
Cabirio Cautela

Cabirio Cautela is Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano – Design Department and Phd in Business Management. He was Visiting Scholar at Stanford University – CDR (Center for Design Research) in 2012. His research topics deal with the strategic role of design, design management processes and how design generates new business models and new ventures. He is currently Director of the Master in Strategic Design and Co-Director of the Observatory of Design Thinking of Politecnico di Milano. He is in charge of the internal Double-Degree Programme in PSS-Design and Management Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. Luisa Collina

Luisa Collina, PhD, Full Professor, is Dean (since 2016) of the School of Design at Politecnico di Milano and Rector’s Delegate for external relations of the University. In 2005, she established a master course there (taught in English) in Product-Service-System Design, and from 2005 to 2015 she has been Head of the program. From January 2011 to 2016 she has been Rector’s delegate for Milan Expo 2015 and for the Major Events of the University. From 2012 to 2014 she has been a member of the Scientific and Artistic Advisory Board (SAAB) of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture of Aalto University (Helsinki). From 2013 to 2019 she has been President of Cumulus, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media that counts more than 257 members from 54 different countries worldwide.
Alessandro Confetti

I started writing software when I was fourteen, and I have never stopped since then. In the meantime, I studied philosophy, focusing mainly on logic and language. Before joining ThoughtWorks in 2017, I worked on data projects for several years. Now I am helping large organizations making sense of their legacy software, finding ways to modernize it. I am constantly looking for ways to perfect the three great virtues of a programmer. Therefore I try to automate everything, design architectures that meet and anticipate customer needs, and continuously refactor my code. I also speak at international conferences about the decentralized web and I teach at Politecnico di Milano.
Marta Corubolo

PhD in Design, Service Designer, Fellow Researcher at Politecnico di Milano - Design Department and member of the Polimi DESIS Lab. Her research is mainly focused on service design and design for social innovation with a focus on the incubation and growth of local initiatives through multi-stakeholder collaboration. She is Adjunct Professor at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano and lecturer in various institutions. She works as a freelance service designer and consultant and in 2014 she founded HousingLab, a multidisciplinary lab experimenting within the collaborative housing sector.

Claudio Dell’Era is Professor of Design Thinking for Business at the School of Management - Politecnico di Milano, where he serves also as Co-Founder of LEADIN’Lab, the Laboratory of LEAdership, Design and INnovation. He is also Director of the Observatory “Design Thinking for Business” of the School of Management –Politecnico di Milano. Research activities developed by Claudio Dell’Era are concentrated in the areas of Design Thinking and Design Strategy. He has published more than 100 chapters in edited books and papers published in conference proceedings and leading international journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Long Range Planning, Technology Forecasting and Social Change, R&D Management, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Industry & Innovation, Creativity and Innovation Management, Business Horizons, and many others.
Fabio Di Liberto

Fabio is currently Brand Innovation Officer and Founder at Habitus. In his previous position as Brand Director at ISKO, Fabio led the consumer-facing ingredient brand global strategies. With 20+ yrs of experience in brand, product and service innovation, Fabio is driven by a strong will to create meaningful and memorable experiences. Prior to this position, he was Global Brand Manager at Moleskine. He is a Fulbright Scholar with a 12-year career heading the Strategy team at Continuum. Fabio lived and worked as a designer for FutureBrand in New York and holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute, on top of a Degree in Architecture from the University of Palermo, Italy.
Peter Di Sabatino

Professor Peter Di Sabatino teaches in the Masters Degree programs in PSSd and Interior and Spatial Design. Previously, he was the Dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from 2009; he returned to full-time teaching in 2014 - 2015. Professor Di Sabatino was the Chair of the Department of Environmental Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He was a visiting professor at the National Institute of Design, India. He was a professor of architecture and urbanism at Woodbury University in Los Angeles, and was the founding Director of the Community Design and Urban Research Center in Hollywood. He is a licensed architect in California, and has been in private practice in architecture, urbanism and design; Professor Di Sabatino has spoken extensively in various international venues.
Davide Fassi

Associate professor in spatial and product service system design at the Politecnico di Milano and adjunct professor at Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona and at Tongji University (College of Design and Innovation), Shanghai where he established and directed the MSc Product Service System Design (2015-17). Coordinator of Polimi DESIS Lab, a research team dealing with design for social innovation and sustainability. He published “Temporary Urban Solutions” (2012) and “In the neighbourhood” (2017). His research is about the relationship between space and service with a community centred approach. Awarded with XXV Compasso d’Oro in 2018 for the project “campUS – incubation and settings for social practices”.
Gioia Gabellieri Bargagli

Gioia Gabellieri Bargagli is a psychologist, psychotherapist and a team-building counselor for Italian and American companies. She was Adjunct Professor of Cinema-therapy and Team Building at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, and she currently teaches the same subjects at the University “Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” of Milan, at the Politecnico of Milan and at the Nova Southeastern University of Miami, Florida. From 2002 to 2005 she was correspondent for the United States of the International Council of Cinema Television and Audiovisual Communication (CICT) UNESCO. On Cinema-therapy and Team Building she has written the book “Le immagini dietro le emozioni”. It analyzes the connection between cinema, team-building researches and Jungian archetypes theory.
Laura Galluzzo

PhD in Design, Assistant Professor in Spatial and Service Design at Design Department, Politecnico di Milano. She is operational manager of POLIMI DESIS Lab within the international DESIS Network (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability). She works on community centered design research projects, with a particular focus on participative projects of (public) spaces and services. In the last years she designed the interiors and services for the Expo Village for Milan 2015, and she was project manager of the last Cumulus Conference in Milan, The Virtuous Circle (June 2015). In 2013 she founded MyHoming with Angela Ponzini, a collaborative web platform designed to bring together demand and supply of services for (con)temporary inhabitants in order to make them feel at home even in a foreign context.
Chiara Ligi

Videomaker, creative producer and multimedia designer, she conceives, develops and manages different multimedia works in the cultural and social fields. She's been trained in screenplay by Tonino Guerra (Fellini’s, Antonioni’s, Angelopoulos’ screenwriter) and she gained great experience in the design and realization of video installations, multimedia exhibitions and museums through a long and fruitful collaboration with Studio Azzurro. Her last experiences, collaborations or personal projects, are of different nature: video, documentaries, interactive video installations, exhibitions, museums, transmedia or cross media projects. Since last year she held the video workshop in the Course Architectural Design Studio at Politecnico di Milano Architecture.
Gianluca Loparco

Gianluca Loparco is the Deloitte Digital Transformation Service Line Leader in Italy. He has been working in the Media industry on several customer and digital transformation initiatives since 2004, having supported several successful digital and innovative projects at large media and telco clients in Europe. He has a broad functional knowledge of Customer Management strategies, processes and solutions having been engaged on projects in the Communication & Media, Energy & Utilities, Gas & Oil and Consumer Business industries. Besides his teaching experience at Politecnico di Milano, he is also working for University of Pavia, Faculty of Engineer, as a Contract Professor of Digital Services Project and Customer Management Systems.
Anna Meroni

Architect and PhD in Design, my research focus is on service and strategic design for sustainability to foster social innovation, participation and local development. I have a specific expertise in co-design methods and tools. I have originated the concept of community-centred design and I work transversally on new entrepreneurship, public services and responsible research and innovation. Since 2016 I’m the head of the international Master of Science in PSSD. From 2013 to 2019 I have been the coordinator of the POLIMI-DESIS Lab, the Milan based research laboratory of the DESIS-Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability Network, which I have served as international coordinator from 2013 to 2016. I’m on the board of the PhD program in Design, principal investigator of national and international research projects, chair of conferences, author of several publications, member of different scientific boards and visiting lecturer in international universities.
Marzia Mortati

Dr Marzia Mortati is Assistant Professor in Design Innovation and Service Design at the Design Department of Politecnico di Milano. She coordinates the MEDes at POLIMI (Master of European Design - a network of 7 design schools in Europe) and is one of the Executive Directors of the European Academy of Design - a network of 3000+ people residing across five continents and 35 countries. Her research interests cover the relationship between Design and Innovation, Design for Policy and Policy for Design, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in Government. She teaches Design Innovation, Strategic and Service design since 2007, and has visited in several international schools (i.e., Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, France, UK). She is author of books and articles in international scientific journal and conferences.

Francesca Piredda

Ph.D, Associate Professor at Design Department, School of Design, Politecnico di Milano. She is member of Imagis Lab and DESIS International Network. Her research and teaching activities deal with communication design, audiovisual language, participatory video, digital media and the narratives. Being committed to the transformative power of stories, she leads research and educational activities such as community TV and social media, content strategy, worldbuilding and storytelling techniques both for social inclusion and brand communication. Being interested in action-research and participative design approaches, she develops and experiments participatory video and narrative-driven processes and tools for co-design. She develops the reflection upon material and immaterial aspects of design practices seeking opportunities for comparison and study with other disciplines such as social sciences and philosophy (see: DESIS Philosophy Talks - Storytelling series and The Pearl Diver. The Designer as Storyteller book, ADI Design Index 2017 award). In 2017 she received the XXV ADI Compasso D'Oro prize.
Carla Sedini

Sociologist and PhD in Quality of Life in the Information Society, Carla is a Researcher at the Design Department of Politecnico di Milano, where she combines and integrates social research and design. She is a member of the D+S research group and collaborates with Polifactory, makerspace and Fab Lab of Politecnico di Milano. She has been researching and teaching issues related to Territorial Development, Social Innovation, and Quality of Life with specific attention towards fragile populations, as in Longevicity (funded by Fondazione Cariplo) and SISCODE (Horizon 2020) projects. She published a book titled “Collectively Designing Social Worlds. History and Potential of Social Innovation” (Milano: FrancoAngeli, 2020), other than publishing in several scientific journals and participating in international conferences.
Daniela Selloni

PhD , service designer and adjunct professor, her research interests mainly cover design for services, social innovation and sharing economy.
“Creative Citizens” is her last applied‐research activity, focused on the co‐design and co‐production of a new generation of public‐interest services, involving a group of citizens in a Milanese neighbourhood.
She is member of POLIMI DESIS Lab (part of the international network DESIS – Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability) within the Department of Design, where she contributes to a number of European and Italian research programmes (among them: CIMULACT, Human Cities, Feeding Milan).
She teaches service design at the Master Degree in Product Service Systems Design at the School of Design of Politecnico di Milano and at the Master Progettare Cultura of POLI.Design and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. In 2013 she was Visiting Scholar at Parsons, The New School for Design in New York. She also researches on methods and tools for co‐design, design for policy and design for place development.
Ilkka Suppanen

llkka Suppanen (b. 1968) contemporary Finnish designer. Ilkka has taught design at several universities and institutions around the world. His expression is light, forward-looking and yet classically Scandinavian. He has also received many international awards.In 1997, Ilkka founded the Snowcrash design cooperative together with three colleagues. 2015 He won The Söderberg prize.Suppanen’s work has been exhibited worldwide including shows at the Venice Architecture Biennale and MoMA in New York. Ilkka has works in the permanent collections of several museums worldwide.
Carlo Vezzoli

Carlo Vezzoli has been researching and teaching on design for sustainability for some 20 years. At the Politecnico di Milano he is professor of product design for environmental sustainability and system design for sustainability, as well as head of the Design and Innovation for Sustainability research group and of the Design and Sustainability laboratory. He is the founder of the Learning Network on Sustainability, which is a worldwide multipolar network of networks of design schools from every continent whose aim is to promote design for sustainability with an open and copyleft ethos. His book Design for Environmental Sustainability has been published in English, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, and Spanish. His most recent book, Product-Service System Design for Sustainability, is forthcoming in Chinese, Thai and Portuguese.
